Re: Walking with a leash

I have not trained a lot of dogs but it sounds like she is looking forward to the leash free jaunt. One thing might help is to take a different route if possible. Your dog may recognize the trip and get more excited. Early in my dogs training I never took him the same way two times in a row. You cou...

Re: ever had hunting success with a rescue?

My rescue dog was super young possibly 4-5 weeks. I had a bit of trouble getting him to eat. The story goes that I had just lost a pup to parvo and was afraid of getting another dog. Someone called a friend asking if he either wanted a pup or knew of someone wanting a pup. I asked for a pic and what...

Re: Advice For Heel?

My pup is 15 weeks and I am still working on a few things with heel being one of them. Today the change directions trick worked really well. He started to slow when I commanded heel because he wanted to get home and if he didn't I would change directions. If they realize their disobedience produces ...

Re: Walking Puppy

use any of the tools as described and change directions a lot, do not pull. "pop" the leade to create stimulation. I have been taking my pup on walks most days. Today I did the change direction trick on the way home. He knew we were going home and he wanted to get there so he was pulling. When he p...

Re: Cooking for an old dog

Thanks,

I appreciate the feedback.

I have always had trouble feeding this dog. He has had skin allergies that the vet thought was from food, he has had kidney problems and stomach problems. Every time we have tried to feed him "dog" food he gets sick and vomits a lot.

Cooking for an old dog

I have tried to figure this out on my own but still am just making a guess. I cook for my 14 yo Weimerimer. He doesn't handle dry food well and really lived his life eating table scraps. Not good I know but hey he is still here isn't he? So I now cook him chicken and rice. I want to know if the serv...

Re: New Pup around Kids

Breed will most likely be a lab as I mostly duck hunt.

3 of the kids are under 5 but Mom is a stay at home Mom and I think she will do a good job keeping the little ones out of his crate.

I appreciate all of the advice.

New Pup around Kids

I am going to be in the market for a new pup in the next week. I have 7 kids ranging in age from 1-13. I was wondering if there are any things I need to insist that the kids do not do with my new dog? I guess I am asking if there are any "special" do's and don'ts. The dog is most likely going to sle...

Re: A little about you...

I am a duck hunter mostly. I am looking to get a dog soon that I can train. I have not attempted to train a dog for a very long time. I have a 14 yo shorthair wiemerimer mix. He never really went hunting. I just got back into hunting about 3 years ago. I will have lots of questions I am sure. I have...
