Re: Handler errors

I am surprised that "hacking" would be the most common error a handler makes during the course of a trial. Thought it would be I'll timed of touching a dog during a find.

Re: Handler errors

I have had handlers braced with me hacked from the put down all the way through the pickup and judge never mentions that as a impedance.

Re: Handler errors

Never knew that over voice (or singing)to a dog would be an error. Improper touching of a dog during a competition would be a common error.

Re: Quail Recall Help

Using the Johnny house in the spring usually has hold over birds from fall training so they should be established in their house. If they are new birds they should at least be enslaved in the Johnny house for a month before use. When using birds in the spring use the cocks only. They have a reason t...

Re: Why Have Pointers Lost Their Status

RayG: you wrote my bird dog life to a tee, I don’t have nearly the years that you have with hunting behind a bird dog, but I too experienced putting my coat out for a lost dog. I am late to the upland game and trialing game NBHA with 35 years. Wish I was introduced to bird dogs earlier in life. They...

Re: Why Have Pointers Lost Their Status

Very well said. There vary degrees of the pointer activity. A novice hunter if directly put to a breeder of foot hunting pointers will be quite pleased with their pointer. I done my research when I first had interest in pointers to find that breeder. I eventually evolved into field trial pointers th...

Re: Got a New Pup

I think technology and clickers have their place as tools in various stages of training. I also strongly support the silent method ; read your pup or dog in the training process. I always go back to the thought of natural cause of the animal life. Who teaches (or trains) the wolf to be an effective ...

Re: Bringing a dog in to heat

Don’t know anything about the product you are mentioning but an old breeder told me to put the female in with the male, not next to his kennel but in with the male and she will be in heat within a couple of weeks. That process has worked for me.

Re: Bar P prefix of the English Pointer

My interest into the Bar P prefix is the probable purchase of a pup that has the prefix on the bottom side of the sire. What I found out is by the way of True Confidence bottom side. It composes Bar P Shadow which is by Go Boy Shadow and I believe Bar P Annex dam is Hard Driving Bev which is a very ...

Roading Rig

Have a john deere gator for roading dogs. Need a better apparatus to get the dogs farther away from front of the gator. Probably will not road more than two dogs at s time.

He is going to make it right. I don’t know if there is a way to detect hip displaysia at a much younger age.

Re: Concern over gait

After googling roached back I believe that’s his problem. Has been on concrete run all summer and fall. There’s a possibility that it has been bred into this particular line of pointers for the run. The Bozoi and running dogs such as the Whippet and Greyhound have a common roach back. Just saying. I...

That’s a good suggestion. I have already a dog with a pro trainer. I will have him look at him. I am bringing my dog home for a couple months. He is 5 hrs. away. I am leaning towards the previous responder that he maybe out growing his age. He is real clumsy in the field. Sent from my iPhone using T...

Concern over gait

Have a 11 month old English Pointer that I have a concern over his gait. He runs without fluid motion , his back is not straight. I have checked his hips and seems to be in no discomfort. I may have to take him to the vet for further evaluation. He is exceptionally big for his age. Sent from my iPho...

Still surfing for lineage of Dale Davis's Bandit Pointers. Came across a pedigree of a pointer owned by Craig Buchanon called Sir Point Dexter on
the Perfect Pedigree website. Does anyone out there would be familiar with contact information on Mr. Buchanon?
