There are grouse in the Sangre de Cristos and Jemez mtns. You have to start looking for them at least at 8,500 elevation. That part of the state got a nice percentage of the precipitation this past spring. It most likely helped with the birds and vegetation. I want to head to that part of the state maybe at the end of the season. Keep us posted on your results.

Put the collar away for now, as mentioned above. How old is the pup? You can teach basic/obedience to a pup but it must be with a gentle hand and short lessons. And, you can add the whistle to it in the meantime. My whistle commands are one toot (sit), two toots (go or do a command; over or release)...

The only time I have lent out my dog to hunt with another person when I am not there, is a close friend and hunting buddy. He has seen me work the dog and knows what to do and not to do. If someone wants the services of my dog, I will come as the handler - and expect to pay the price.

Hey John, I made these hobbles and use a pigeon pole. The pole is an old saltwater spin rod that I attached a zebco 202 reel on it. Get a training program to use on your pup. At this point, he is still a young pup and keep things fun and short to keep his interest. Also, you can use a live pigeon/quail with clipped wings now - it helps to keep his birdy drive going.
