Re: clicker training, who is doing it?
Too many overlook the value of learning to learn. The concept of operant conditioning is complex. Complex enough for rampant misuse and misunderstanding. Of course it doesn't supersede prey drive. A dog can learn to stand, go out, turn, crate, recall, and any other building block behaviors you care ...

Re: What does a chap do when Mother Nature calls while hunting?
I think one of the most critical competencies for a dog trainer is being able to assess behavior. It is a window to perspective in humans and animals. If we understand perspective we have a basis to communicate, the best way to shape behavior is to communicate in a manner most efficient and germane ...

I should probably stay out of this, yet here I go. As described above selective breeding does create a genetic disposition. The transparency of those genetics is immediately transformed by the environment the animal is in. That environment is all inclusive to include various imprinting stages within...

Re: Clicker vs Whistle
Used traditionally a clicker and a whistle are two different tools. A clicker simply marks a desired behavior, notification if you will that something has been done properly to be followed by a reward. A whistle is generally a cue or command. It is actually notifying the dog to perform a behavior. F...

Bree has always been a striking specimen. The style that dog portrays is built in her genes and I have found it isn't just "pretty." A dog that breaks out with that confidence usually always has the right head and heart for the purpose of performance.

Re: about the Are bird hunters afraid of field trial dogs?
Distance creates terrible misconceptions in the horseback field trial world. I think it is the nature of people to want tangible metrics, as a result there are a good number of folks who would consider "yardage" the difference between an all-age and a gun dog/shooting dog. In example, 300 yards and ...
