Re: What's your favorite bird dog training program?

There is something about the Perfection Kennels program that stands out from the others and that is their extremely detailed step by step video instructions. It is by far the easiest program for a beginner trainer to follow. You will use a lot of birds in this program, so make sure that you have acc...

Re: Foot hunting pointer lines:

You should get some good responses from several pointer owners regarding this topic here. I think that you will find many pointers that are great with your kids and family and be able to work within the range that you're looking for. 400 yards isn't exactly a boot polisher. Yes you can. I would avoid over hacking or over handling however, as this will reflect in your score in the trainability category. A junior hunting dog is expected to show reasonable obedience to the handlers commands and hold point until the handler is within normal gun range.

I would love to do a chukar hunt with some far ranging pointers. One of my dogs did not like to back and at times would blink a back. We incorporated the following into the training and developed an excellent backer. OCCASIONALLY let your dog get the retrieve after a successful back. Only do it if you have a helper that can flush and shoot the bird. This way you ...
