Re: Akc Hunting tests
I am a supporter of and participate in the AKC hunt test program. However, the problem I could see with these new titles is the owner who puts 10 Junior Hunter titles on his dog and proclaims his dog as the ultimate, and touts this dog for breeding, etc., particularly with dealing with an inexperien...

You all have some nice rigs. I enjoy looking at other set ups. Phoenix, the old Jeep is cool, you just don't see them around any more. I would have liked to seen the bear hunters when she made it up the hill. Way back in the day I had a couple also; a 77' Wagoneer and a 79' Cherokee.

Snips, I agree. These dogs are called mutts. They may make wonderful pets and/or hunters (or maybe not), but one thing remains for certain. They are mutts.
Oops breedings can and do occur, but I cannot imagine why anybody would intentionally do this breeding.

It's hard not to agree with Ray ; get the breed that you want to hunt behind. If chosen from good breeding with parents that are proven in the field, you will have a pup with good natural ability. Most all will adapt well to being kept as house pets. Most people will recommend the breed that they ow...

Re: using grouse scent to train?
The commercially purchased bird scents do not have much use in most training programs. Get the pup out on live birds. Is it safe to assume this pup has not been conditioned to gunfire as well? As tempting as it may be, don't let his introduction to a shotgun be on that first grouse that he bumps whi...

I would not recommend a correction followed by kenneling him as previously suggested. In short time he will associate his kennel with being punished. Soon he will not want to kennel at times that you want him to, such as in the truck, at night, when you are gone, etc.

A registered dog is nice in regards to knowing the exact pedigree and being able to compete with the dog. However, registration does not make a hunting dog. Genetics and training make a hunting dog. Funny video. Reminds me of a story. A friend had a lab that ran from the yard into the road and was struck by a car.
