Re: Here is a thread to a petition to REPEAL gun control.

I always cringe when I hear the argument that sportsmen and hunters need to separate from the "gun nuts" in regards to gun control. In reality we do not need to control an inanimate object, we need to control deranged, sick or criminal people from the unlawful use of them. The second amendment never...

Re: What do you think of the land quality where you hunt?

So, here's a thought. Your WAY over thinking this. Make a small investment in a good pair of boots. Find some public land. Set out on that land to find game. If you wear out the boots and haven't found game but enjoyed the time you spent searching, take up hiking. If you have found game try hunting ...

Re: I am looking for field-quality Irish setter pups.

Wasn't Dave Walker was it? He said that in his first training video. Brought it to a trial and a bunch of us sat around watching it with Dave's wife. Her comment on the duct tape was nobody talks to his dogs more than Dave! But it is a good idea. I simply don't talk much! No it wasn't. And it wasn'...

Re: Mist netting pigeons

Get your hands on one pigeon to put in the trap. I had a hard time also when first setting out traps, then I would end up with several in it. Made me think, once the others see the first one in the trap eating and drinking they are less guarded about going in. I always add a "bait bird" now and it h...

You just described my wife and my working conditions as well as our living conditions. You also described my son's conditions to a tee. My son has a GSP and my wife and I an English setter. Both dogs are doing just fine in the conditions you described. Dogs sleep much of the day anyway and their cra...

Re: Is sending dogs to a trainer worth it?

In my case, yes, definitely worth it. This was my first bird dog. I was fortunate enought to get hooked up with a very good trainer who pushes his clients to be involved in the training process. I knew I needed as much if not more training than the dog. I now have a big running dog that I can handle...

Man that brings back some memories. I remember going to the airport to pick up my new 8 week old setter pup. Already had her name picked out, Lady. The Grand Canyon NAVHDA chapter uses Blankenburg Kennels. http://www.bkgsps.com/snake.html Good option if you aren't in the Phoenix area. +1 for blankenburg kennels. I rechecked mine a year later and as soon as she got wind of that snake she was like a sled dog getting the heck out of the area. Goo...

This is absolutely the worse part of owning a dog. No matter how old they are it seems to soon. This is the price we pay for their unconditional love while they are with us........, the lessons they teach us and the memories that never leave.

My setter likes to be brushed but she loves when I get out the vacuum. I put the brush attachment on and I get tired of it long before she does! I do think I may "clip" her this summer though. She will probably look like a differnt dog because she has alot of orange ticking under that white coat.

overlay a different behavior; for instance...when she looks at the chair, tell her you want a sandwich and suggest she make it. This will always spur one of two responses. 1. You will both need an attorney. 2. She will make the sandwich at which point you click and treat with a diamond of 1 carat o...

Anyone k...

Upland G3 or Pro 100

Looking at E-collars, settled on either a field series Upland g3 or Pro 100. The Upland saves a little cash as it comes with the beeper but I think I like the idea of the main buttons being continuous as on the 100 as opposed to nick like the upland. Seems like it would be easier to just nick with t...

"Kennel" dog as house dog

Hello, Just joined the forum. I am looking at a year old started English Setter. I live in AZ so there are not alot of kennels in this area that breed setters. None with pups right now (that I could find). I did find a very well respected kennel in the area with a year old started dog. My only reser...
