It's a numbers game. Many of those 20k dogs are dogs that might run 20 stakes a year, I am a firm believer that if you have a broke dog and run it enough times FC or AFC is more a "when than If". The absolute best wild bird dog I have owned was a GSP/EP that I found for free on this forum. Gator was a for sure bird dog, he produced birds. I usually have at least one that runs bigger than the other sometimes 5-6 scattered across 500yds, as long as the dogs are good with it, and don't race horse it can be very productive.

Dogs like this don't last long around here. If a couple good ol fashion whoopins don't settle things I won't bat an eye at culling an aggressive dog. I won't take the chance of my other dogs becoming injured, and I encounter too many other hunters in the field to worry about what my dog will do when...

We ran coyote hounds for years, many a coyote were dispatched by those hounds. You ever seen coyotes kill? It's not pretty.

I hunted a lab with a GSP for a few seasons. It was hard to really enjoy myself for keeping both dogs in check. Now I have GSPs and EP. Any combination of pointing dogs can be hunted together. Might be time to break your dog...... A dog that's running around like a fool while you are shooting has no clue what's happening around him. I had the same thing happen. Grass awns won't necessarily show on XRay. My dog started with a lump had it drained and got on antibiotics, reoccurred a couple weeks later. Ultimately had to put him down. The awn was taking the infection every where it traveled through his body

Why do you want to start pulling or roading? Most dogs will enefit more from free running than they will from roading and weight work. But, to answer your question, I have always heard to hold off on roading and weight work until after hip certs are done which is after 2yo

National championships have little to nothing to do with a dog getting a DC, most if not all are won at the local weekend level.
I have ridden 95% of the braces at Every trial I have ever been too and to call MOST DC's the best of anything is questionable at best.

I would say best is a relative term..... the vast majority of DC I have seen go, were average at best in the field. Personally I have not seen many that blew my skirt up....

Lab. I use mine for upland birds, doves, when I waterfowl hunted she traveled the country with me, I flush and shoot rabbits over her and she will tree and retrieve squirrels.
I have also used her to herd sheep.

I am not sure about your SP101, but mine is only 3" bbl, and fixed sights. If that was my chosen platform to hunt with, I would look at the Ruger GP100.
I have used my dads GP100 with hand loads to take both deer and coyotes to about 50yds.
