Good post by RayG but I would add emphasis that you need to work up to where the dog cannot be allowed to chase them when they flush. I am pretty sure he meant that by his description of what to do when the bird flies (pick up the dog) as he is in essence describing making a dog stand flushed birds....

I found this thread and it perked my interest. I have an 8 year old female who can be real moody at times and shows no medical problems other than ups and downs emotionally. We tested hormone levels, etc...I might give this a try.

Welcome...a lot of thoughts on the wing but what is important is what matters to you. It is your dog and whatever makes you happy is what you should do.

Check out the Smith video on puppy development and I bet you see a segment on using a rag on a pole...same principle.

I ran across this as TSC today and although it is an equine product, it has a dosage for dogs:

Never discussed Metacam with the vet but I will. Your vet is using the drug Rimadyl. It is an anti-infalmmatory drug just the same as Metacam. Sasha's Blend is a joint repair supplement of glucosamine / chondroitin etc.. not a pain reliever. Correct...I am looking for something to assist in joint r...

I know someone who had a GSP pup that contracted this at about the same age. It was at least a year of on and off meds (Prednisone) but the dog recovered and is no worse for the wear.
