If I was considering a horse that the current owner had in a harsh bit I would question why they needed it. If a horse is well trained it shouldn't need a harsh bit. Some owners and trainers when they have difficulties with a horse, think the answer to all problems is to move to harsher and harsher...

First as to selective breeding - look at race horses, nearly all track records were set more than 50 years ago These records were set at a very different time on the track with a very different set of rules & laws comparing these horses to todays animals are like apples to oranges.Also you have alot...

There are a number of ways to train a horse not to kick, as there are ways to train a dog to accept horses and not get under them. But neither are the case with the OP, he just wanted to know how to introduce each to the other. Unlike others, he seems to wants to avoid injury to dog, horse and hims...

I cut a 1 1/2in x 3in slot out of the top of a 5gal bucket & set it upside down over a poultry water. The birds can only stick their heads in to water & water stays clean.

It's senseless to argue the field trial dog vs hunting dog because if the owner is happy with his dog that is all that really matters. Don't agree. Not all horses can be trusted around dogs. Only takes a second for disaster to happen. Horses that have been worked with stock dogs seem to learn bad habits for bird dogs.
