Re: dog losing weight on high performance food
It can in no way be good to feed to carnivores. Dogs are not omnivores. It's as simple as 2+2=4. Another time you are wrong. Back in time you were probably right though. Ezzy Back in time? Dogs have not evolved into omnivores. Evolution takes millions of years. We haven't evolved since the Paleolit...

Re: dog losing weight on high performance food
When we go huckleberry picking my wolfdog eats nearly as many off the bush as we pick. Dogs are not omnivores. It's as simple as 2+2=4. :?: :?: :?: wouldn't that make your dog an omnivore??? No, the actual amount he/wild canines eat isn't significant enough to be considered omnivores. He stops eati...

Re: dog losing weight on high performance food
It's not a matter of my way is the right way. That's not my point. My way is what works best for my dogs. I wouldn't ask anyone to make the financial sacrifices my GF and I make to feed our dogs the way we do. My dogs health is way more important than any fancy shotguns or shiny truck. My point is t...

He may or may not be a crackpot but what he writes about corn is truth. Corn is not healthy. No if, ands or buts about it. Re: dog losing weight on high performance food
Wonder why practically every animal in the world eats corn when its available? Maybe they need to be taught this new dietary procedure and forget what we all have learned over the years in our studies and what nature has provided for them. Maybe that is why it is too wet to harvest the corn this ye...

Re: dog losing weight on high performance food
Those guys aren't endurance athletes. Bird dogs are asked to run for very long periods. Hours on end even. Just like endurance sleddogs. Not the sprinters. There is preference and there is performance. Just because it is how you have always done it doesn't make optimal. For years coaches told athlet...

Re: dog losing weight on high performance food
My dogs perform better when they have a little fat on them. They hunt harder, longer, and find more birds when they have enough fat to barely see their ribs. How long does the glycogen in their muscles last, and how long does it take to replenish it? IMO, a healthy well conditioned dogs needs fat t...

Fat storage is nothing more than stored energy. Thats true whether you are awake or asleep. And is there to use in either case also. Ezzy In order to to access it the body needs to be in ketosis. I use lard rather than the vegetable oils. Works well for my pointers. They are hard keepers and it keeps weight on them. I've heard cottage cheese will work well too but the lard is cheaper. It's infinitely healthier too. As long as you aren't using the shelf stable lard thats hydrogenated. That's...

These are not opinions. They are studied, scientific facts. Another fact is that it can't be good to feed grains to carnivores. How do people and dogs live longer? Life is easier. Better living conditions, hygiene and medical intervention. There is more disease and obesity though. Can't argue...

Re: dog losing weight on high performance food
I've never had a problem with the dogs losing excessive weight from working as long as you feed a good quality feed with corn as one of the top ingredients. There is no such thing as good quality corn! Those are three words that should never go together Ever heard of lectins? How about leptins? htt...

I was wondering how the sardines help? before I give them a try Protein and FAT! It's the primary energy source for canines. They only burn glycogen during their glycolytic phase, first 2-3min. of exercise. After that it is all fat. Fat has more than twice the available energy of any sugar. In term...

LOL! Ah, she's a good one she just needs some re-training too. I just have to wear her down a bit. I've convinced her to take the Hunter's Safety course. A few times out hunting and she'll get it.tommyboy72 wrote:Get rid of the lady and take the dog.

Sorry, I know I said I would go back to lurking but I don't know where else to ask this question. I took a chocolate lab pup for a walk today at our local shelter. The shelter says she is 1-1.5 yrs. I think she is more around 9 mon. She is very much a puppy still. She is quite untrained, no leash ma...

Hunting for my dog isn't very tough due to his general level of conditioning from backcountry skiing in winter and spring to mtn.biking all summer. Backcountry skiing requires snacking. Friday I was able to hook up with a buddy and his Visla for a little grouse hunting. O.K. So as a dog goes through their energy process there is glycogenic phase (first 2-3min of activity) and the oxygenic phase (after 3min.). I am surprised that your dog won't tolerate the kibble as that is what they feed a lot of wolves almost exclusively and they do well on it just like any dog. Several small zoos around here feed kibble with the only meat being an occasional roadkill deer they can get hold of. Hope it all works out f...

I have to ask if the regular ...
