Re: Should i let me Brittany actually play with and catch a live bird

If I were you...I'd go back and re-read Ray's post. I run the same type dog Ray does, except they're britts. Prey drive is not an issue, therefore I don't let them catch birds. Have helped friends with low prey drive dogs that we've let catch birds to build them up. Now watching a pup bump and chase...

Re: Rabbit Hunting with Drahthaar

If they're bored my britts love to point bunnies. I can tell the difference.
In my case it would be point, flush, shot, run and get the bunny before they tear it apart.
This would open up a squirrel opportunity as well.
Birds would be largely forgotten.

tri tronics isn't gone, garmin just relabled them. This is basically same as G2-G3. And the old g2's and g3's are still available and oftentimes you can change batteries and bring them back to life.

I don't know anything about the Fi Collar.

If you look you can find 1st generation Astro 220 + a collar for less than $300. That'd be the way I'd go if I wanted to save money.

I have one as a backup that's 10 years old and going strong. Pull it out a few times a year just to keep batteries good.

Well said Ray.

Lots of ways to train/work bird dogs. Educate yourself and do what works for you and your situation. I regularly use carded birds to good effect, especially with young dogs.

If it's not a wild bird, it's all "phony" to some degree. That doesn't make it wrong.
